Greetings, allies!
Lots going on this week. Let’s get right to it!
Early voting for the Bastrop mayoral runoff has begun at the Bastrop County Courthouse Annex. Please take a few minutes sometime between now and June 6, or on Election Day June 10, and cast your vote for the Dem candidate in this race, Dock Jackson. Yes, we know this is a non-partisan race. But still: Vote For Dock!
Reminder: our first Bunco gathering is this Friday June 2, 11-1. If you want to hang out with some like-minded folk and shoot the breeze while we shoot some dice, reply to this email or leave a comment, and we’ll get back to you with the details.
Yay, food banks and community gardens. Boo, food deserts! For all of you food activists out there, check out this food leader workshop led by Sue Beckwith coming up next week in Elgin, TX. Here’s the link for more info and to register. Thanks to Lisa Frackowiak of Flying Pony Farm for sharing this with us.
Thanks to everyone who attended our Tacos and Trivia Night event. It was a blast. We learned a lot. We learned that any time tacos are on the menu, we are IN. We learned we prefer the original Trivial Pursuit format to the lame wannabe Southern version. We learned we all want to be on Donnie’s team next time.
Speaking of next time, we have something fun in the works for June. Stay tuned!
Who else is enjoying the heck out of the Ken Paxton mess? Hard to land on the best bits so far. We have the drunk speaker accusations, and the literal dumpster fire, and the apoplectic Cheeto, and the slam-dunk 121-23 vote in the House to impeach. Yes, we know the Senate gets to take a crack at it next, and who knows what the outcome will be? But for now, let’s savor this moment while we can, shall we?
We need quality candidates going into 2024. No more Paxtons! There’s a candidate boot camp by the NDTC (the National Democratic Training Committee) coming up on June 3 if you want to get started. Click here to find out more and to register.
Remember that yard sale we held on May 20? We have some items that did not sell, which left us scratching our heads because they’re pretty cool. Motorcycle leathers, anyone? A complete set of collectible 1970s-era Christmas carnival glass in pristine condition? These items will now be offered for sale via a variety of social media sites. Proceeds benefit CODA. If you would like a screamin’ deal on some quality items, and benefit our activist efforts in the process, reply or comment and we will get you the details.
