Greetings, CODA friends!
In this post we are featuring some content from a guest contributor, Gilbert Zamora. Gilbert is a staunch Dem. You may recall he was mentioned in an earlier post as a big winner at one of our Bingo nights.
Recently Gilbert and a friend decided to attend a local GOP event. He was kind enough to report back to us on what they observed. You may want to sit down before reading. Perhaps grab the smelling salts. Folks, you just can’t make this stuff up.
From Gilbert:
As my fellow democrat neighbor, Sam, and I were headed to a local GOP Meet the Candidate event, we discussed what we expected to hear from most of the candidates. We heard lots of what we talked about. Very distasteful for anyone who isn’t a Republican. It’s like they could shoot you on 5th avenue and get away with it!
There were tons of helpers for each candidate, putting flyers and placards on each chair for seating for about 150 people. Sam and I thumbed thru most of the paraphernalia to see who would be there that night. The judge who stopped the woman from having an abortion to save her life was there (Ed. note: John Devine), and proud of his work on the bench (although he did not mention that event in when he spoke of his greatest accomplishments). Just dodging the abortion thing, because I believe that is what will keep a Democrat in office if women will get to the polls! In addition to the robust economy, which they cannot hide from.
In talking with those handing out flyers, one woman handed her info into our hands and went to bragging that the woman, whom I think was a judge (Ed. note: Gina Parker), was endorsed by Abbott and Costello. Oh, I mean Abbott and Paxton. And I immediately told her that “surely that cannot be a good thing!” She continued to slobber and tell us that Paxton was found to be not guilty. Sam diligently told her that the hearings were not a trial. She could not think of the word ‘acquitted’ because I AM SURE SHE WAS IN SUCH A HABIT OF TELLING THAT LIE THAT HE WAS FOUND INNOCENT.
The Republican primarying Gerdes (Ed. note: Tom Glass), put Gerdes as some of the worst coming out of the “swamp in Austin.” Gerdes voted to impeach, indicted felon Paxton. He went on to talk like he could defend the shooter in El Paso Walmart when talking about the “invasion” at the border and the “great replacement” of white voters by immigration. I believe he was the most hateful candidate towards POC (people of color). Talking of the “vermin from the swamp in Austin”, and parents who are taking care of their children’s health by “mutilating them”.
Butch Carmack (Ed. note: candidate for Precinct 1 commissioner) and Jeff ‘GoGo’ Gogolewski (Ed .note: candidate for Sheriff) were next in line, disparaging POC at the “invasion” at the southern border. Carmack told Sam, while he was campaigning Riverside Drive, that the US government was handing “all those undocumented immigrants (Carmack calls them ‘illegals’), $10,000 each”. Sam rebutted immediately that was a bald-faced lie. Carmack mumbled something to the effect he had heard that somewhere. FAUX!!!!!
The language they use is just fear-mongering about undocumented immigrants and stripping people of their humanity! That is what got the gun loon to head to the El Paso Wal-Mart, thinking he was protecting “his land.” “His land” stolen and warred over by Anglo settlers. This is the conservative apparatus in America demonizing human beings trying to escape poverty, violence, and war. Almost every candidate mentioned it.
Sam and I left fearful of our democracy, because Republicans only care for themselves and being in power.
Sadly,
Gilbert S. Zamora
Thanks to Gilbert and Sam for taking one for the team and witnessing this insanity in person. If you’d like to see the full event on video, Google the Lost Pines Republican Women for links.
