Greetings, fellow Dem allies!
Last day to register to vote for the November 7, 2023 election is Tuesday October 10. If you have friends or family or new neighbors who need assistance getting registered, we can help. Drop a reply below, and we’ll help you git ‘er done.
There are 14 important proposed constitutional amendments on the ballot in Texas this November. (If you need info on the specifics, we are supplying that info on our Facebook page. ) These types of elections, where no humans are running, often have traditionally low turnout. We’re hoping to change that. And we need your help.
We believe voters will act if they are made aware some of those propositions could impact them (and their wallets). We would love to have some additional volunteers to help us contact Bastrop County voters. Typically that involves phone banking, texting, and block walking. And CODA being CODA, we usually add a little socializing to everything we do. So if you’re into getting those steps in and closing that ring, then enjoying a nosh with your buddies as you rehash the block walk campaign you just nailed in record time, we hope you will consider joining our volunteer team. Reply to this email or leave a comment, and we will be glad to fill you in.
Thanks to all who turned out for our Candidate 101 seminar on the 16th. We are hoping to see some of these folks on the ballot in the future.
CODA has been meeting with individuals who may be willing to run for a variety of offices in 2024. We need opponents to run against Michael Cloud in the 27th Congressional district and against Texas Representative Stan Gerdes in the 17th. Judgeships, county commissioners, city councils, school boards, and other positions are also in need of like-minded candidates. Time is ticking away. You can check the details on filing deadlines at the Texas Secretary of State website here. If you know of anyone who is thinking of running for office, let us know. There are many groups in addition to CODA and more traditional county parties, such as Mothers Against Greg Abbott/Mothers For Democracy, Blue Horizon, Annie’s List, Collective Campaigns, and the 134 PAC who are also happy to help.
In other news:
CODA recently received their first check from our CER (Contest Every Race) grant. So far we are really enjoying working with them. Their trainings are informative. Their staff is helpful. And that free texting service - gotta love it!
We were somewhere recently, fretting over the Herculean task of finding candidates for every race on the ballot in 2024, when someone joked about maybe getting a non-human candidate to run. And dang if this didn’t pop up on the wonderful too-freakin-cute @weratedogs account on TikTok today. If Idyllwild, CA can do it, why not here? Yay, Mayor Max III!
We had an absolute ball at this month’s CODA Game Night at Film Alley in Bastrop (SWIDT?), despite the hideously ugly shoes (unless you were John S. and somehow got handed a pretty spiffy pair). Low score wins in bowling, right? Right?
We have something in the works for our October Game Night. Let’s just say, you might want to head over to the local thrift store and start shopping around for a costume. More on that in a future newsletter.
We have set up a CODA PayPal to make things easier for one-time donations. Thank you in advance for supporting our fundraising efforts. More on that in the next newsletter.
Until next time!
All good info! You all had a wonderful turnout for you Candidate Recruitment event, way to go. And love the Office Running Dog. I’m going to dress Schuster up in a Democrat blue kerchief and take a photo. I’ll pass it on to you.
